September 2010

September 10-11: Confirmation Kick-Off  Friday: 7 p.m.— Saturday at 3 p.m.

  • A Synod Sponsored event for adults who work with youth in your congregation’s Confirmation program. Emphasis on team-building skills, teaching techniques, prayer, fellowship and fun. Cost for this weekend is $45. Saturday only- $25

September 13: Golf Outing Monday: 8am Registration, 9am Shotgun Start

  • This golf outing— Scramble will take place at the Oak Crest Golf Course in Norway, MI. Cost for this event is $60 which includes 18 holes, cart, luncheon and prizes. *To register or to sponsor a hole contact Pr. James Chinery at pastorchinery@yahoo.com or 906- 774-0133. Deadline to register is September 1.

September 17-19: Women’s Fall Retreat and W-ELCA Convention Friday Supper-Sunday Lunch

  • Come and be with other women for a spiritual weekend retreat. We’ll have bible study, songs and worship; we’ll light the sauna and have a bonfire at night. September 20 Senior Adult Day Monday: 10 a.m.—2 p.m.

  • A wonderful opportunity for Senior Adults to come together for fun, fellowship and learning. The program begins with fellowship and music, and continues with either a guest speaker or special activity. Cost for Senior Adult Day is $10.

September 29 - Fall Work Bee 9 a.m.—5 p.m.

  • Bring your talents and tools with you to Fortune Lake and help with special projects around the camp. Please register at least 2 weeks in advance, and let us know if you are coming to help with general labor, or if you have skills in a particular area. **Free Food Provided**

October 2 - Repertoire and Skill-Building Workshop Saturday: 9 a.m. — 3 p.m.
  • A workshop for ringers and directors, to jumpstart your fall program. Read new repertoire– practice ringing skills. Network with ringers and directors. Contact Janet Van Valey with questions: 269-655-8081 or jvanvaley@gmail.com. Cost is $40 per person and includes lunch. Bring gloves, note books and music stands.

October 9 – Anniversary Fall Fiesta
Saturday: 9 a.m. (CDT) Viewing Begins

4:00 White Water Concert/Folk Dance

  • Join us for a day filled with fun activities to benefit Fortune Lake. Activities include a Quilt and Fine Arts Auction, Chili Cook-off, Country Market, Pontoon excursions, a Fly Fishing Demonstration and activities for kids. This will also be the kick-off for the 2010-11 Second Sunday Concert Series. *If you would like to participate in the Chili Cook-off, please contact the camp office to register

October 9 - Second Sunday Folk Dance (on Saturday)

November 5-7: High School Youth Gathering Theme— Saint/Sinner
Friday at 7pm-Sunday at 3pm

  • A great chance to reconnect with old friends and make new ones! A chance for worship, games, and just hangin’ out at camp. Special Guest Musician Jonathan Rundman (jonathanrundman.com) will lead music for this exciting event! Cost for meals, lodging and programming is $85.

November 8 - Senior Adult Day

November 14 - Second Sunday Folk Dance
Sunday: 4 p.m. — 7 p.m.

  • For 25 years, people of all ages have enjoyed coming to Second Sunday Folk Dances at Fortune Lake. Special Guest Musician in November is Gerry O’Beirne. Gerry is a renowned singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist (6 and 12 string guitar, tiple, and ukulele, slide guitar among others). Visit Gerry’s website at www.gerryobeirne.com. Cost is $7

November 15-16: 10th Annual Secretaries Retreat
Monday: Noon— Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.

  • Come get pampered! A massage, relaxation, music, Bible Study, fabulous crafts and great food await you at Fortune Lake! There’s also time to network and share stories, tips and ideas. Refresh and re-energize yourself. Cost is $75.

December 2010

December 3-4: Family Getaway and Slumber Party
An Event for families and children of all ages
Friday beginning at 6 p.m. — Saturday at 3 p.m.

  • Come join with other families on this ―Advent Adventure!‖ We’ll celebrate the season of Advent and prepare for the birth of Jesus with Bible Study, crafts, singing, campfires and lots of fun. Price for Adults-$45, Youth over 12- $38, Youth under 12- $35. Maximum cost per family = $150.

December 12 - Second Sunday Folk Dance
Sunday: 4 p.m. — 7 p.m.

  • Special Guests in December are Laurel Premo and Michael Beauchamp "Red Tail Ring"— a duo with roots firmly planted in Appalachian old time and folk music, and branches reaching out to forge new arrangements complete with haunting harmonies and an expansive dynamic range. www.redtailring.com. Cost is $7.

January 2011

January 7-8: Ice Fishing Weekend
Friday: 6:30 p.m. — Saturday afternoon

  1. Bring your ice fishing gear and get ready for a great weekend of fishing, food, saunas and fun! Cost for adults- $40. Cost for youth- $30.

January 9: Second Sunday Folk Dance
Sunday: 4 p.m. — 7 p.m.

  • For 25 years, people of all ages have enjoyed coming to Second Sunday Folk Dances at Fortune Lake. Special Guest Musician in January is Bryan Bowers. Bryan is a master autoharp player and traditional songster and has been a major presence on the North American folk music scene since the mid-1960’s. www.bryanbowers.com. Cost is $7.

  • Ski at Ski Brule… stay at Fortune Lake! Get the best of both worlds! Fortune Lake will provide food, lodging, a sauna, cross country ski trails, a tubing hill and programming while Ski Brule will provide the slopes! Ski Brule is just a 25 minute drive away from FLLC. February 2011

February 13: Second Sunday Folk Dance
Sunday: 4 p.m. — 7 p.m.

  • Guest musician in February is LJ Booth. Guitarist LJ Booth has been a traveler— playing clubs (from Boston to Austin) and festivals (including Falcon Ridge, Edmonton, Kerrville, Telluride and the Rocky Mountain Folk Fest)— building a stage presence that has become his trademark. www.ljbooth.com. Cost is $7.

February 25-27: Basket Weaving Retreat
Friday: 7 p.m.— Sunday at 1 p.m.

  • Come to Fortune Lake prepared to take home a finished basket. Lucy will teach you how to make this basket, which is a garden basket but could also be used as an Easter basket. We will have a weekend full of fellowship, singing and weaving. We will close on Sunday with a worship. Call the office for details and watch for a detailed flyer later on.
  • Cost: $60 for meals and lodging Cost of materials: $40.

March 2011

March 4-5: Church Council Retreat
Friday: 4 p.m. — Saturday at 2 p.m.

  • Church Council Retreats are a great way to develop a solid ―Team‖ unit between Church council and pastors. Fortune Lake and the Northern Great Lakes Synod have partnered up to help your council grow together and learn valuable resource tools. Cost for food, lodging, program is $50 per person

March 4-5: Junior High Youth Gathering
Friday: 6:30 p.m. — Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

  • We’re havin’ a party! Come celebrate Mardi Gras at this Junior High Youth Gathering just before Ash Wednesday. Great music, fun speakers, interesting Bible studies. Come find out how Mardi Gras came into existence, and how it can make the pre-Lenten season in your church and home a fun and meaningful time! Cost for meals, lodging and programming: $45

 

March 13: Second Sunday Folk Dance

  • For 25 years, people of all ages have enjoyed coming to Second Sunday Folk Dances at Fortune Lake. The incredibly talented music group– Whitewater typically performs for the first third of each event. The next set is then performed by a special guest. Then finally the chairs get pushed aside for some folk dancing. Special Guest for March– TBA. Cost is $7.

May 9-11: Pastor’s Sabbath Monday-Wednesday: Come whenever

  • Come and relax on your own, with another clergy friend or with your spouse. This ―unstructured‖ time is just what the spirit calls for. Be refreshed and renewed by enjoying all that Fortune Lake has to offer. A one-hour discussion will be the only scheduled event each day as well as any meals you choose attend.
  • **Meet up with other clergy and relax! Lodging is FREE! The only cost is for meals.
